Here's my little family on the sea. This week, we sail from one anchorage to another to explore some ruins on Mount Alvernia (also known as Como Hill)!
In "ANCHORING IN 40 KNOT WINDS: Where Shall We Go?" we make a flopper stopper, have a BBQ, and set off on an amazing day sail to seek shelter from high winds. The next day, the wind kicks off and we do our best to stay safe in 40 knots at anchor.
In today’s video, we are continuing our series on the new soft, folding solar panel kits that have so much to offer. They are fairly cheap, but more importantly they are very light, small, easy to handle and complete. No matter what size rig you are in, they will fit and no matter your health and strength, you can easily handle them. They seem like the perfect answer for so many of us!
But, how well do they work? Today I hook them all up to a battery and use a clamp-on amp meter to test the amount of maps flowing through them and into the battery. The results were just what I expected from two of the systems, and very disappointing for three others. Check out the video to learn more.
For us, a “vacation” means no cameras, no editing, no internet.
So, occasionally we spend a few days off grid and unplugged, recharging our souls--leaving the camera's behind.
Except this time... was a little different! and we are happy to share our little secret with you.
Savannah is close enough that our family is able to join us for a few days of exploration. We hop on the trolley and check out the sights, sounds, and tastes of this historical city.

Growing up, I idolized the 4x4 Ford Sportsmobile. It was awesome to be able to tour the new 4x4 Classic!
Also, just to clear things up, I do not and have not ever made money from manufacturers to feature rigs. I post rigs because I hope you will enjoy them. I hope you enjoy this one.
In all of our travels we have never seen so many fishing boats as in the Philippines. Not big ones. Just small outrigger style canoes that typically hold two to four people. It’s pretty neat. As soon as they start the engine the propeller starts spinning. No clutch. No gearbox. Just an engine directly hooked up to a little gas engine. With these contraptions they venture 50+ miles offshore as the sun sets and start up their lamps. We never did quite figure out exactly what species they were after but I’m sure anything would do.
We go under the Golden Gate bridge for the second time and arrive in Monterey at night. Then our anchor catch something nasty on the bottom! Monterey is a cute town with friendly people and we rent a car to go south along the coast of the epic Big Sur!
We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat Ran, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter in January 2016. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us.

Ex.LMS Jubilee 4-6-0 number 45596 "Bahamas" sounded great on the northbound "White Rose" from Dorridge (Birmingham) to York.
The weather made recording very difficult though. It was rather as though the Atlantic Ocean was falling from the sky at Thurnscoe, my first chosen location. However, a bit of very careful balancing of an umbrella while I zoomed, just about made it possible.
The Jubilee was assisted at the rear by Class 20 diesel number 20142, looking just a little bizarre in its London Underground maroon livery. However, beggars can't be choosers and the Class 20 added to the day's haul of vintage diesels .... see my earlier video ...
Hi all you lovely people! A lot going on in this episode! Alex slices part of her finger off! :O and Brady steps in as the boat doctor. “The Sailing Mum” AKA Karin’s mum comes out for a visit, she brings a whole heap of goodies and we tell her the amazing baby news! Yes, it involved some crying :)
If you like, give it a thumbs up and a comment :D would make my day!
Much Love ~Kazza and the crew
In today's video, we mee the Masked Canadian!! She is a vandweller from Canada and the reason she is wearing a mask is that she could not find an insurance company that would insure the van if she modified it to live in. So she ended up insuring it as a commercial vehicle and didn't tell them she had modified it. But, now she doesn't want them to know what she has done so she is wearing a mask so no one can identify her. I know it is weird, but most vandwellers I know have something weird about them, and this is just another one!
She's done a great job converting her van and I think you will find some great ideas you can borrow from her! I hope you enjoy meeting a true eccentric character and learn lots from her!
Hi everyone, this is Bob Wells, be sure to visit my Amazon Influencer Store, where I have posted some of my useful and recommend products for nomadic living. As a bonus, I'll make a very small percentage of your purchases, even if you buy something not in the store.
After arriving in Ecuador, I travelled back to Colombia to help Maria bring down Joana. We arranged some of the trip as a ten day charter, hopping along the remote but stunning coast of Pacific Colombia.
Our guests Robert, Ruud, Richard and Bub were part of the Crew and they helped with the daily chores like anchor and sail mannouvers, doing watches and dishes.
We had a great time with those boys that made us call this trip the "off course cruise" due to some fun times at Joana's helm 😊
So, off the back of last weeks video I need to apologies for a phrase that i uttered, not once but a few times whilst looking around the new caravan from Bailey. I also have an idea on how to share the Caravanning and motorhome YouTube community better, so If you do run a channel, please click on the link above to submit your details.
We are now on our holidays and if you are seeing this video - then Ii failed to get the intended video finished and launched. No doubt that one will be out soon.
Anyway, enjoy the weather and we will see you soon.

Today was a real treat for fans of vintage diesels.
In the space of 90 minutes on Swinton station, in South Yorkshire, we were treated to diesel specials .... one after another!!
The morning was capped off with two resplendent Class 47's on a "real" working, moving a pair of barrier coaches from Doncaster West Yard to Leicester.
All in all a good mornings work .... even for a steam fan !!

For those of you that have visited the Jersey Shore, will know that the "Ocean Avenues" up and doen the shoreline are lined with multi -million dollar homes that sit vacant most of the year but can also be rented for 5-10K or more, a week in the peak season. Imagine waking up to the waves crashing and being able to watch the sunrise, sunset and the fireworks while parked in your van camper, FOR FREE on land that is valued in the millions. Kenny from NYC has been staying in Ocean Grove NJ for a while now and he was nice enough to provide a complete walk through style tour of his 2002 Xplorer Dodge RAM Van 3500.

BOAT LIFE: Kicked Off Our Boat By The Swell & Keeping It Real in The Med. In this sailing vlog, we show some of the realities of living on a bluewater sailboat: sometimes it's too rolly to sleep on board, internet isn't reliable for us digital nomads, and we depend on the weather at all times.
What constitutes a perfect travel destination? It’s a tough question. Over the years we have found a few. El Nido, and the Philippines in general, ranks at the top. What’s our criteria? A few! Cost, safety, accessibility, and amenities. The Philippines is really really affordable. The most expensive thing is the flight to get here. Once here you will find cheap beach bars and restaurants. Accommodation ranges from the super fancy to the hammock on the beach. The best part? The local filipinos. They are by far the friendliest nation we have ever visited. You will find smiles everywhere you turn. They seem happy and content in life. Something that can be rare in this world. If you get the chance, go to the Philippines. You won’t regret it!

LNER Class A1 Pacific number 60163 "Tornado" headed The North Briton express from Doncaster to Carlisle.
The train was preceded by Class 86 electric number 86259 (also carries its old number E3137) which was scheduled to head the return working. The electric is rather older than the steam locomotive, being built in 1965, while Tornado was built in 2008 as a replica.
Although very windy, the weather had been generally on our side today. We had sunshine for most of the day. However, for the few minutes when Tornado passed by, we suffered a torrential downpour which made recording rather less than an easy task !!

After years of working 60 to 70 hours a week and never taking a vacation, Carolyn and I (Rob) decided to quit our job and begin living our dream. We bought a 1970 Starcraft pop-up camper and fixed it up, traveling the country, and only staying at free campsites. After living in it for a year, our pop-up was burned down by someone in a National Forest. We did not let that get us down. We built a homemade truck camper in 2 1/2 week so we could continue living our dream. Welcome to Little House On The Road 2.0 and welcome to the Little House On The road Family.
Today we take a look at a fantastic way to carry your electric bike or fat tire bike. You might have an amazing electric bike or fat tire mountain bike... but now the problem is how to carry it? And even more important how do you access the rear of your vehicle and still be able to open the the back doors of the van?
The Swing Away Hitch in this video is the Kuat Pivot Swing Away Extension. One drawback of a regular mounted bike rack is the maneuverability. With a swing away extension the arm attaches with any 2-inch rack to hold your rack, it also swings those bikes out of the way if you need access to gear in the back of your van.
Or instead of a bike rack you could instead attach a cargo carrier onto the swing away hitch. It can hold up to 250 lbs when loaded. It swings a full 90-degrees and it has a anti-locking anti-rattle hitch pin.
The bike rack is the Overdrive Sport 2-Bike Hitch Mounted Rack. It has an anti-wobble system and a mechanism utilizes a system to eliminate slack between the receiver and the rack. It also tilts and adjusts easily.
In Sailing Life: Island Hopping Under Spinnaker, we look for the fault in out steering and then set off on a light wind sail under spinnaker between Majorca and Menorca.

El Nido in the Philippines has a bylaw which forbids all single use plastics (bags, straws, food packaging). Even water bottles were banned on all the tourist day tours. I’d say that’s pretty progressive for a developing country and honestly, much further ahead than, for example, our home town in Canada. That said, currents and tides transport these plastics from far away and inevitably they end up on the windward beaches. Beaches that few see. It’s the sad reality out. Our adventures continued on the west coast of the Philippines where few cruisers anchor partly because of the deep anchorages. 25 to 35 meters was the norm. That’s a lot of chain to pull straight up for the windlass (the electric motor that pulls up the chain). As a result, we found ourselves having to freedive, dive and generally get creative in how we got our anchor back up.
